The Sambar was developed with Shinroku Momose, the creator of the "Subaru 360," as chief engineer, and the first model appeared in 1961 (Showa 36). It had an advanced cab-over style for a light truck at the time, and the rear engine layout that produced stable driving and tremendous traction performance, and the four-wheel independent suspension became the identity of the Sambar, and this tradition continued until the end of sales of the 6th generation in 2012.
