Towards the ultimate. R34 GT-R
In January 1999, the R34 Skyline GT-R (BNR34) was born, based on the R33 Skyline GT-R, which had previously held the title of "strongest." The power unit was a further refinement of the legendary "RB26DETT" engine inherited from the R32 model. Although the maximum output was limited to the then-domestic self-imposed limit of 280ps, the torque was 40.0kg-m, or 15.6kg-m per liter, boasting the strongest specifications of any domestic engine at the time. In addition, it adopted a 6-speed manual transmission jointly developed with Getrag. The body size was also downsized compared to the R33 model, and the handling performance was greatly improved. However, in August 2002, production sadly ended due to emission regulations, bringing its history to a close.
