In April 1973, the Celica LB, which had a "third door" called a liftback, was added to the A20 series of first-generation Celica cars. The Celica LB became a hit from the moment it was released, and in 1975 it complied with the Showa 50 (1975) exhaust gas regulations. The following year, the 2-liter DOHC model complied with the Showa 51 (1976) exhaust gas regulations, and many improvements and changes were made to comply with the exhaust gas regulations.
