The Y30 model, the sixth-generation Cedric and seventh-generation Gloria, appeared in June 1983 as a complete model change from the previous 430 series. The styling mainly followed the straight lines of its predecessor, and its clean and refined form proved popular. The Y30 attracted a lot of attention for being the first mass-produced V6 engine in a Japanese car, and a year later, the V30 Turbo Brougham VIP, which incorporated a turbo into the VG30 engine, was announced.
