Built as a seaplane tender like its sister ship Chitose, the Chiyoda underwent repeated conversions into a midget submarine tender and then an aircraft carrier. This 1/700 scale plastic model kit depicts the Chiyoda in its converted form as a midget submarine tender capable of carrying and operating 12 midget submarines, known as "Type A Midget Submarines." With a parts configuration that focuses on the essentials, it is simple, easy to assemble, and accurately reproduces the ship. Various fittings such as anti-aircraft guns and machine guns have been newly designed and added. The precision and detail of the 1/700 scale are well expressed.
