Belongs to the 6th Escort Squadron of the 2nd Escort Flotilla.
Following the Hyuga and Atago classes, it adopts a tower-type mast to enhance stealth capabilities.
Equipped with the FCS-3A multi-function radar and the advanced Sea Sparrow missile (ESSM) with a range of approximately 50km, it is responsible for fleet air defense.
Differences in machine gun placement have been confirmed compared to the Akizuki class.
