■Product Description
Aircraft Description:
The Horten Ho 229 is a jet-powered flying wing fighter-bomber developed by the Horten brothers in Germany during the later stages of World War II. In 1943, the Horten brothers, who were in the Fighter Inspection and Technology Department, submitted the Horten IX project, which involved building a jet-powered flying wing, to Hermann Göring's 3x1000 program. Göring approved the project in August of the same year, and it was put into action. In March 1944, an unpowered prototype made its maiden flight, and in February of the following year, a second prototype equipped with a Jumo 004 engine successfully made its maiden flight. Witnessing the high performance of the second prototype, the Air Force officially adopted the aircraft as the Ho 229 and planned various derivatives, including a two-seat version and a night fighter version. The aircraft had a simple structure, with plywood attached to a steel tube frame with adhesive, making it easy to manufacture, and it was designed to avoid the heavy use of strategic materials such as aluminum. Furthermore, because it uses carbon powder in its paint, it is said to be the world's first radar-stealth aircraft. Although derivatives from the V3 to the V6 were under construction in various locations, production was halted with Germany's defeat. The V3, which was the most advanced in production, is currently stored and displayed at the National Air and Space Museum in the United States.
