■Product Description
The Kübelwagen is a military vehicle produced in Germany during World War II. The name "Kübelwagen" is a shortened form of "Kübelschitzwagen," meaning bucket seat car, and was originally a general term for military vehicles with bucket seats and folding canvas roofs.
In 1938, the Porsche Design Office was requested by the Army Ordnance Department to research the conversion of the Volkswagen Type 1 into a military vehicle and completed a prototype. However, there were concerns regarding durability and weight, so improvements were made and the prototype Type 62 was developed. Field tests of the Type 62 revealed issues such as adjusting the driving speed and improving maneuverability in mountainous and rural areas, so further improvements were made and the Type 82 was completed.
Approximately 52,000 Type 82s were manufactured.
