■Product Description
We are pleased to announce a new product from Big Plane Kits, a Ukrainian manufacturer of injection-molded passenger aircraft kits: the 1/72 P-8A Poseidon patrol aircraft. This kit reproduces a different form from the base 737 by creating new molds for the fuselage, winglets, turret-type FLIR, and AGM-84 Harpoon anti-ship missiles. The kit also includes photo-etched parts, painting mask stickers, and resin engine parts. Decals for the Royal Australian Air Force and the US Navy's VX-1 squadron are included, and the Royal Australian Air Force decals include all aircraft serial numbers, so any aircraft can be reproduced. When completed, the aircraft will be approximately 536mm in length and 497mm in wingspan.
The P-8 is a patrol aircraft developed in the United States, and is a modified version of the small passenger aircraft 737. The US Navy began researching a successor to the P-3 patrol aircraft in the mid-1980s, and in 2000, it put various aircraft manufacturers into competition. This aircraft was initially submitted by aircraft manufacturers as the "737MMA (Multimission Maritime Aircraft)," a modified version of the 737. After being selected in 2004, the Navy adopted the 737MMA as the P-8A. The U.S. military began operating it in 2013, and currently, in addition to the U.S. Navy, it is operated by the Royal Australian Air Force, the Royal Air Force, and the Indian Navy, with several other countries planning or considering its introduction.
