■Product Description
The E-60 was designed as a medium tank under the E Project, which aimed to increase productivity by standardizing various components in the development of each tank, which had become extremely complex up to that point, and also to standardize tanks according to weight.
Although the E Project tanks established a mass production system for the initial design in October 1943, the E-60 was a latecomer because it adapted the hull design of the E-10 to a medium tank, and its combat deployment did not begin until 1945 or later.
The E-60's design was even more thorough in eliminating surplus equipment than the E-75/50, which is reflected in its almost flat, straight-line appearance with very few curves.
As a result, the manufacturing process was greatly reduced and mass production was dramatically improved, but due to the late stages of the war, the number of units produced was limited and insufficient to have an impact on the war situation.
Initially, the hull was developed as a 40-ton class light-medium tank prioritizing mobility, based on the design of the earlier-developed E-10 light tank. However, due to production constraints, the turret was repurposed from the E-75/50, and as a result, the hull size had to be revised to accommodate the enlarged turret ring, resulting in a 60-ton class medium tank with 200mm of frontal armor.
The basic road wheel configurations included a type with seven large road wheels and a type with eight medium road wheels (both doubled), and some of the medium-wheeled versions were equipped with upper road wheels to reduce drive loss.
