〇I-176 Submarine
The I-176 submarine was one of the Kaidai Nana class submarines. The Kaidai Nana class submarines were characterized by a change in the main engine from the Kaidai Rokub class, and by concentrating the torpedo tubes at the bow and eliminating the torpedo tubes at the stern. It also succeeded in shortening the time required for rapid diving. Completed in August 1942, the submarine departed Kure in September and rushed to the Solomon Islands via the Truk Islands and Rabaul. It participated in reconnaissance and transport operations in the Guadalcanal area. In October of the same year, it achieved the feat of severely damaging the American heavy cruiser USS Chester. Thereafter, it was engaged in many supply and transport operations, but in May 1944, it was intercepted and sunk by an American destroyer during a transport operation to Buka Island.
