■Product Description
The Atlanta was the lead ship of the Atlanta-class light cruisers of the United States Navy. Named after Atlanta, Georgia, it was the third ship to bear that name. Although this class was initially intended to be a leader ship, it was actually used as an anti-aircraft cruiser. The ship was laid down in Carney, New Jersey in 1940, launched in 1941, and commissioned in December of the same year. After engaging in anti-aircraft combat in the Battle of Midway in 1942, it participated in the Second and Third Battles of the Solomon Islands in the same year. In the Third Battle of the Solomon Islands, despite being hit by shells and torpedoes, it fought bravely, and when it was drifting in a state where it could not be easily maneuvered, it was towed to Lunga Point by the minesweeper Bobolink. When the South Pacific Force commander ordered the Atlanta to scuttle itself, it was scuttled that same day. Atlanta received five battle stars for her service in World War II, and a Distinguished Unit Medal for her "heroic and invincible fighting spirit" in the Battle of Guadalcanal. The kit is a full-hull model, and the standard version includes decals, photo-etched parts, metal chains, and 3D-printed parts, while the DX version includes the contents of the standard version plus three additional photo-etched sheets, brass parts, and resin parts.
