■Product Description
Introducing a new 1/144 DC-8-61 from X-Scale Models, a Ukrainian passenger aircraft kit manufacturer. The DC-8, along with the 707 and CV880, is a large jet passenger aircraft that represents the first generation of jet aircraft, and was also the world's first passenger aircraft to perform supersonic flight. This injection plastic kit reproduces the significantly stretched -61 model with newly molded fuselage parts. The kit includes painting mask stickers and one type of decal. When completed, the aircraft will have a length of approximately 397mm and a wingspan of approximately 302mm. This is a kit that will be of great interest to passenger aircraft fans.
The DC-8 is a passenger aircraft that represents the first generation of jet aircraft, and was the world's first large jet passenger aircraft to perform supersonic flight. Developed in 1952 as the successor to the DC-7C, orders officially began in 1955 and were received not only from American airlines but also from airlines in various countries, including Japan, contributing to the jetization of long-haul routes around the world. The 60 series was the final evolution, with three variants manufactured: the -61, -62, and -63. The 60 series eliminated the seat-mounted oxygen masks and lighting units, which had been problematic for maintenance. Like many other aircraft introduced around this time, these were replaced with overhead stowage units, and window curtains were replaced with blackout shades. The -61 was a high-capacity, medium-range aircraft with a fuselage extended by approximately 11 meters without changing the -55's maximum takeoff weight or fuel capacity. At the time of its introduction, it was the world's largest passenger aircraft in terms of seating capacity. While it had a large seating capacity, its range was not particularly long, so it was primarily used on medium- and short-haul trunk routes, including US domestic routes, Japanese domestic routes, and Asian regional routes, where long-range flights were not required.
