This is a 1/18 scale handmade model car of the "Porsche 918 Spyder 2011" produced by "EIDOLON".
Model Description
This model faithfully reproduces the "Porsche 918 Spyder" that was unveiled at the 2010 Geneva International Motor Show.
We received cooperation from the owner of a "918 Spyder" that still exists in Japan, and were able to perform a 3D scan of the actual car.
Following Makeup's model-making theory, we aimed for an objective form that scales down the atmosphere of the actual car without unnecessary deformation. The body, which is composed of smooth curves throughout, is a perfect match for CAD design using a 3D scanner.
One of the eye-catching points of the 918 Spyder is the engine hood. The entire surface is covered with a hexagonal honeycomb mesh, and the inside is visible through it. The model is designed to match the actual car, incorporating etched parts with press processing into the mesh sections, and the molded details visible through the mesh are also expressed in a simple manner.
The headlights and taillights are molded and painted with a resolution close to the limits of 1/18 scale for the housing and reflector shapes, and then a clear cover made of injection-molded material that matches the curvature of the body surface is attached on top.
The complexly shaped wheels are designed based on scan data. Since it was decided from the beginning to use injection-molded plastic material, the thickness of the edges and the thickness of the spokes can be designed to be thin and realistic.

The 918 Spyder was unveiled at the 2010 Geneva International Motor Show.
It was presented as a hyper sports car that combined high maneuverability that surpasses the flagship model "Carrera GT" with environmental performance on par with a compact car thanks to its hybrid system.
All specifications were revealed in the 2013 release. The engine is a 4.6L V8 engine inherited from the RS Spyder, and a total of three motors are installed: two at the front and one on the rear axle transmission.
The chassis is a carbon monocoque, and the basic layout follows that of the Carrera GT, with parts that did not reach the planned sales figures being cleverly reused.
The exterior design is said to be based on the Porsche 917K, a prototype racing car that dominated the racing scene in the 1970s. It is designed in combination with "Porsche Active Aerodynamics (PAA)", which combines an opening and closing underfloor flap, a retractable rear wing, and variable air intakes.
The 918 Spyder boasts sufficient maneuverability on its own, but for customers who want further performance upgrades, the "Weissach Package" is available, consisting of unpainted carbon exterior parts and magnesium wheels. The interior is lined with Alcantara, sound insulation is omitted, and aluminum parts are replaced with carbon, achieving a weight reduction of approximately 35 kg.
