The T-2 was the first supersonic aircraft developed independently in Japan. It first flew in 1971, entered service in 1974 and remained in service until 2006. The engine was powered by two turbofan engines, the TF40-IHI-801A, from the Shigawa Prefecture. It boasted a maximum speed of Mach 1.6.
