This is a 1/25 scale plastic model assembly kit of the Hornet convertible, a passenger car manufactured and sold by the American Hudson Motor Company in the 1950s.
About the actual car
The Hudson Motor Company is an American automobile manufacturer established in 1909. Hudson manufactured automobiles independently until 1954, and one of its popular models during that time was the Hudson Hornet. It adopted a unique chassis structure called a step-down design. This achieved a low center of gravity, resulting in excellent handling. Its good handling made it popular in the motorsport scene, and it played a major role in stock car races of the time, raising its profile. The Hornet was produced from 1951 to 1954. From 1955, production was taken over by American Motors Corporation, which was formed by the merger of Hudson and Nash-Kelvinator Corporation, and the second-generation model was produced until 1957. The 1952 Hornet was the first-generation model manufactured by Hudson, with a lineup including a four-door sedan, a two-door coupe, and a convertible. The engine was a 5-liter or 4.3-liter inline six-cylinder. The 1952 model also featured a Twin H-Power engine with dual single-barrel carburetors on a dual intake manifold as standard equipment, producing 170 horsepower, which proved to be very popular.
About the model
This 1/25 scale model of the 1952 two-door convertible Hudson Hornet, which was well-known for its success in the stock class of American automobile racing in the 1960s, is approximately 20cm long when finished. The engine is modeled after the inline six-cylinder H-145 engine. The inline six-cylinder engine features a faithfully reproduced air cleaner canister mounted above the cylinder head, making a strong statement in the engine bay even after assembly. The distinctive step-down chassis is also meticulously modeled with separate frame and floor panel parts, and the low center of gravity structure is a fascinating aspect to build. In addition, the front and rear suspensions and drive shafts are finely reproduced, resulting in a mechanically detailed finish. The body, composed of smooth curves, perfectly captures the car's style. Chrome parts such as the front grille and rear bumper enhance the overall atmosphere. The convertible body also boasts an attractive interior reproduction. From the dashboard to the seats and door panels, the careful painting work will be a rewarding experience for modelers. The tires feature pad-printed white sidewalls, adding a sharp touch to the car's appearance. This is a must-have for American car fans and classic car enthusiasts alike.
