■Product Description
●A kit that includes masking stickers to create a sharp finish
About the actual aircraft
The F-35A Lightning II is the aircraft that the Japan Air Self-Defense Force began deploying as a successor to the F-4 and F-15 fighter jets. It is a fifth-generation multirole fighter jet that was jointly developed internationally, mainly by Lockheed Martin of the United States. It was planned to be able to handle a variety of missions in the Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps with just this one aircraft. While the basics are common, it has different specifications depending on the operational method. Among them, the F-35A is a conventional take-off and landing type developed for the Air Force. It is equipped with a single Pratt & Whitney F135 turbofan engine. The aircraft has a highly stealthy shape and is equipped with a weapon bay, and weapons such as missiles can be stored in the weapon bay. In addition, there are six hardpoints installed under the wings. Commercial operations began in 2016, and the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) began deploying and operating the F-35A Lightning II in 2018, where it plays an active role as the latest main fighter aircraft.
About the Model
This model is a 1/72 scale plastic model assembly kit that reproduces the F-35A Lightning II, which the JASDF has newly deployed and begun operating. The kit uses parts made by Italeri of Italy.
This kit includes masking stickers that are convenient for painting the canpy, the EOTS cover frame on the underside of the nose, and the tires and wheels. It is a welcome feature that the masking stickers allow for a sharp finish on these noticeable points. The masking stickers are die-cut and easy to use; simply peel them off the backing and stick them onto the parts. The model features the markings of a commemorative painted aircraft produced in September 2024 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 302nd Squadron. The large illustration of a white-tailed eagle on the vertical stabilizer is not to be missed. The lettering on the main landing gear covers and the markings on the sides of the air intakes are also faithfully reproduced. The engine is also assembled inside the fuselage with minimal parts. The weapon bay panel on the underside of the aircraft can be assembled in either the open or closed position. The interior of the weapon bay is also realistically modeled.
