About the actual vehicle
Known as the German army's warhorse, the Panzer IV tank served as the mainstay of the German tank forces from the early stages of the war until its end. It had an excellent basic design from the beginning, and various variation models were created using it as a base vehicle. As the war progressed, the German ground forces gradually lost air superiority and were subjected to Allied air attacks, so they developed various anti-aircraft weapons. Among them was the Panzer IV Wirbelwind, named after the Allied "whirlwind". The hull utilized that of the Panzer IV, and 18 armor plates were welded together to form a 9-sided open-top rotating turret, which was equipped with a 20mm quadruple anti-aircraft gun that was feared by the Allied forces as an anti-aircraft machine gun. Completed in 1944, it was deployed to tank regiments, and when they acted together, they demonstrated their power against approaching enemy aircraft. It is said that more than 100 units were produced by the end of the war.
About the Model
This model is a 1/35 scale plastic model assembly kit of the Wirbelwind, an anti-aircraft self-propelled gun deployed and operated by the German army during World War II. This kit reproduces the type based on the Panzer IV Ausf. G. The kit also includes parts for both the type with Zimmerit coating, a special coating applied by the German army to tanks and other vehicles from 1943 to prevent magnetic mines, and the type without the coating. You can choose to assemble either type. Of course, the shape of the Panzer IV Ausf. G is reproduced in detail, down to the smallest details. The bolt details on the hull and the suspension are also mechanically reproduced. The running gear, which uses assembly-type Magic Tracks, along with the detailed road wheel parts, gives the finished product a much sharper look. The open-top turret on the upper part of the hull not only has a distinctive shape, but also meticulously reproduces details such as the weld marks on the armor plates. Furthermore, Dragon's signature representation of armor plate thickness (or thinness) enhances the realism. The anti-aircraft gun mounted inside the turret is the renowned 2cm quadruple anti-aircraft gun Flak 38. Dragon's exquisite reproduction is not to be missed.
