■Product Description
●Detailed reproduction of the bright red Viggen
This is a 1/48 scale plastic model assembly kit that reproduces the Swedish Air Force fighter jet, JA37 Viggen, in its bright red livery, a special paint scheme known as the 'Red Viggen'. In addition, this kit includes dedicated photo-etched parts.
About the actual aircraft
The Saab Viggen is a jet fighter that was independently developed, deployed, and operated by Sweden, a Nordic country. Development started in 1961 as a successor to the Draken. After successfully making its maiden flight in 1967, it was deployed and put into service from 1971. The aircraft's shape features canards on both sides of the cockpit and delta wings. It is equipped with one Pratt & Whitney JT8D-22 engine. While achieving a top speed of Mach 2.1, it also boasted STOL performance that allowed it to take off and land on short runways. It was equipped with a 30mm Oerlikon KCA cannon as fixed armament, and could also operate RB71 Skyflash short-range air-to-air missiles. A total of over 300 aircraft were produced. In 2002, the 1st Squadron of the 10th Wing created a commemorative painted aircraft as a memorial to the dissolution of the wing. The Viggen, painted entirely red, was called the 'Red Viggen', and the squadron's ghost mark was painted in white on the nose and wings. The aircraft is still on display in a museum in Sweden and can be seen today.
About the Model
This model is a 1/48 scale plastic model assembly kit that reproduces the Saab Viggen, which played an active role as a Swedish fighter jet. The parts are made by Italeri. This model reproduces the commemorative painted aircraft produced in 2002 when the 1st Squadron of the 10th Wing of Sweden disbanded. In addition, a separately sold photo-etched detail-up parts set is also included. The photo-etched parts include pre-printed color photo-etched instrument panels and other parts to detail the cockpit interior. The finished aircraft has a length of 342mm and reproduces the distinctive form of the delta wing equipped with canards. The white ghost markings painted on the nose and wings are provided as decals by Cartograf. Simply paint the aircraft in a vibrant red and apply the decals to create an impressive special paint scheme. In addition, a masking sheet for painting the canopy frame is also included, making painting easy and reliable. Furthermore, the kit features a well-balanced parts configuration that allows for precise assembly, including the delicate details of the landing gear, the details inside the landing gear bay, and the reproduction of the cockpit.
