■Product Description
●Model of the latest deployed F-35B of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force
About the actual aircraft
The F-35B, which began deployment to the Japan Air Self-Defense Force in August 2025, is a fighter jet capable of vertical landing using STOVL mode. It is a new fifth-generation stealth fighter born from the United States' JSF Joint Strike Fighter program, employing state-of-the-art high-tech systems and materials to achieve high stealth capabilities. A distinctive feature is that three types are produced from a single basic design to suit different purposes: the conventional take-off and landing F-35A, the short take-off and vertical landing F-35B, and the carrier-based F-35C. Among them, the specially made F-35B was developed for the United States Marine Corps and is being deployed as a successor to the Harrier. It is equipped with one Pratt & Whitney F135 turbofan engine. The F-35B is characterized by its combination of an axial-driven lift fan system and exhaust nozzles that deflect thrust downwards to ensure V/STOL capability. It successfully made its maiden flight in 2008 and entered service in 2015. The Japan Air Self-Defense Force also deploys it on the Izumo-class destroyers, playing a vital role in Japan's air defense.
About the Model
This is a 1/72 scale plastic model assembly kit that reproduces the F-35 Lightning II, the latest jet fighter that has appeared as a fifth-generation fighter and is being deployed in countries around the world. The F-35B type, capable of short take-off and vertical landing, is modeled with a finished length of 217mm. Not only is the aircraft's distinctive shape realistically reproduced, but the mechanism of the axial-driven lift fan duct from the F135 engine inside the fuselage is also realistically reproduced. In addition, the engine nozzles at the rear of the fuselage can be assembled in either the normal state or the downward-deflected state. Furthermore, the inside of the weapon bay is also modeled. The mechanical finish is not to be missed. The markings include those of aircraft deployed by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's 202nd Squadron, which began deployment in 2025.
