About the Actual Vehicle
The Type 2 Special Amphibious Tank (Kami) was developed and equipped by the Imperial Japanese Navy in cooperation with the Army as one of the pieces of equipment for its Ground Forces during World War II. It was based on the Army's Type 95 Light Tank, and adopted a fully welded structure with rubber seals on the hatches. The turret was the turret of the Type 2 Tank. The main gun was a Type 1 37mm tank gun. Detachable floats were equipped on the front and rear of the hull to provide buoyancy, allowing it to travel on land and water. The floats were removed after landing, and it continued to advance as a regular tank. It was officially adopted in 1942, and about 180 units were produced by the end of the war. It was first deployed in combat at Saipan and played an active role in various battlefields on the southern islands such as New Guinea.
About the Model
This is a 1/35 scale plastic model assembly kit that reproduces the Type 2 Special Landing Craft Ka-Mi, an amphibious tank developed and operated by the Japanese military during World War II. It is modeled in the configuration that allows it to sail on the sea with floats attached to the front and rear. The front floats reproduce the later model which is split into left and right halves. Not only the shape of the floats but also the details of the mounting hardware are accurately reproduced. Furthermore, the observation tower mounted on the top of the turret and the ventilation pipes on the top of the engine room are also faithfully reproduced. Slide molds are used extensively for the rear floats and the upper and lower parts of the hull, making assembly easy and reliable. The road wheels and suspension are also realistically detailed. The tracks use an easy-to-assemble belt type. In addition, the accurately reproduced turret includes a 37mm tank gun, with the barrel base housed inside the turret also reproduced, resulting in a mechanical finish. The turret hatch and the ventilation grille hatch on the hull can be assembled in either open or closed positions. This is a kit that will allow you to enjoy the unique style of an amphibious tank.
