[About the actual ship]
The USS Iowa was a US Navy battleship that entered service in 1943 during World War II. It was the lead ship of the Iowa-class battleships, of which six were planned and four were built. Its standard displacement was 48,500 tons and its length reached 270m.
During World War II, it advanced into the Pacific theater from 1944 as the flagship of the 7th Fleet, and continued to fight valiantly against the Japanese Navy.
After the war, it also participated in the Korean War, and was further equipped with modern equipment and armament, including missiles, and entered service three times in various locations. It continued to be active in seas around the world.
It was decommissioned in 2006. It was towed to the port of Los Angeles, where it remains today as a museum ship.
