About the actual aircraft
The F-35A Lightning II is the aircraft that the Japan Air Self-Defense Force began deploying as a successor to the F-4 and F-15 fighter jets. It is a fifth-generation multirole fighter jet that was jointly developed internationally, mainly by Lockheed Martin of the United States. It was planned to be able to handle a variety of missions in the Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps with just one aircraft. While the basic design is common, it has different specifications depending on the operational method. Among them, the F-35A, a conventional takeoff and landing type, was developed as an aircraft for the Air Force. It is equipped with a single Pratt & Whitney F135 turbofan engine. The airframe, which has a highly stealthy shape, is equipped with a weapon bay, and weapons such as missiles can be stored in the weapon bay. In addition, there are six hardpoints installed under the wings. It entered service in 2016, and the Japan Air Self-Defense Force began deploying and operating it in 2018, and it is playing an active role as the latest main fighter jet.
