About the actual aircraft
The T-33 Shooting Star was a jet trainer mainly operated by the United States Air Force from 1948 after World War II. It was also used by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force and was a familiar aircraft in the skies of Japan. It was equipped with one Allison J33-A-35 centrifugal turbojet engine.Without tip tanks or Guys armament, it boasted a top speed of Mach 0.8. It adopted a tandem two-seat aircraft design with straight wings. By 1959, over 6,500 units had been produced, making it a best-selling aircraft used in more than 30 countries worldwide. It was also produced under license in Japan, and was the first jet aircraft to be produced under license domestically after the war.
About the Model
This is a 1/72 scale plastic model assembly kit that reproduces the T-33A jet trainer operated by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, specifically aircraft No. 221, which was specially equipped with a long measuring pitot tube in the nose and was called the "T-33A Kai" (modified T-33A).
The kit, reproduced with easy-to-assemble parts, has a finished length of approximately 150mm. The straight-winged fuselage shape is faithfully reproduced. In addition, delicate details such as panel lines enhance the realism.
The air brakes can be assembled in either open or closed position. The delicate reproduction of the landing gear and the reproduction of the bay are also noteworthy. Furthermore, this kit includes a metal pitot tube. The metal part, which faithfully expresses the delicate shape, gives the model a sharp finish. The markings are those of aircraft No. 221, which was used by the Flight Development and Test Wing at Gifu Air Base and is currently on display at the Gifu Kakamigahara Aerospace Museum.
