About the actual aircraft
Among the F-15 Eagles, which are still operated as the main fighter aircraft of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, the aggressor specification F-15J Eagle belonging to the Tactical Fighter Training Group, where particularly skilled pilots gather, is known for its unique paint scheme and markings. The Japan Air Self-Defense Force's aggressor (simulated enemy aircraft) units were established in 1981. Until 2014, they were called the Tactical Fighter Training Squadron, and thereafter they were called the Tactical Fighter Training Group. Their main mission is to conduct air combat training with various fighter squadrons, and they are known as elite units with dedicated aircraft and skilled pilots. The F-15 Eagles operated by them are painted with various special paint schemes that differ from regular F-15s to make them easily identifiable in the air. Due to their unique coloring, they are among the most popular aircraft in the Japan Air Self-Defense Force.
About the model
The model is a 1/72 scale plastic model assembly kit of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force F-15J Eagle from Platz, which has already garnered high praise from aircraft model enthusiasts.
This kit models the F-15J of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's aggressor units that play the role of simulated enemies in training. Aggressor aircraft are basically two-seat F-15DJs, but a small number of single-seat F-15Js are also deployed. Therefore, F-15J aircraft with aggressor paint schemes are extremely rare. The aggressor squadron belonged to the "Tactical Fighter Training Squadron," but was reorganized into the "Tactical Fighter Training Group" in August 2014. This model reproduces an F-15J with the blue identification paint scheme that marked the end of its time in the Tactical Fighter Training Squadron from 2012 to the spring of 2014. The blue paint applied to the nose, upper surfaces of the wings, and drop tanks is provided as large decals made by Cartograf. Of course, the aircraft is modeled in 1/72 scale, with details down to the panel lines. The attention to detail, including the engine nozzles reproduced by dividing the parts, and the delicate reproduction of the landing gear, should not be overlooked. This is a kit that we would like to add to the collection of any Japan Self-Defense Forces fan.
