About the actual car
Audi, which brought 4WD technology to the world of rally and showed overwhelming power, then aimed to challenge 4WD in circuit racing. The machine developed based on the 4-door sedan A4 Quattro debuted in 1995 in Class 2 touring car races. The following year, 1996, it also participated in the BTCC in the UK. The engine was a longitudinally mounted inline 4-cylinder 2-liter that produced more than 300 horsepower. Power was transmitted to all four wheels via a 6-speed sequential gearbox in the Quattro system. Despite being burdened with a 100kg "weight handicap" compared to the 2WD machines, the 4WD A4, along with driver Frank Biella, won the championship. This demonstrated the effectiveness of 4WD even in races on paved circuit courses.
About the Model
This is a plastic model assembly kit that reproduces the Audi A4 Quattro that Audi entered in the British Touring Car Championship, BTCC, in 1996, using completely new molds.
From its body form to the details of the chassis underside that reproduce the 4-wheel drive mechanism, and even the cockpit expression unique to a competition model, it is accurately reproduced while also considering ease of assembly. Markings are available for Frank Biella's machine, car number 45, and John Vintcrift's car number 44, which won the series championship in the 1996 season for Audi Sport UK. The simple body style is tightened up by the reproduction of fine details such as the rear wing and front spoiler. The cockpit, with its reproduced roll bar and interior equipment, creates a spartan atmosphere. This machine, which ushered in a new era in the history of touring car racing, is an indispensable model.
