This is a plastic model assembly kit that reproduces the EA-18G Growler, an electronic warfare aircraft operated by the US Navy, in 1/48 scale.
【About the actual aircraft】
The EA-18G Growler is an electronic warfare aircraft developed and operated by the US Navy as a successor to the Grumman EA-6B Prowler. It was developed based on the US Navy fighter jet, the F/A-18F Super Hornet, and entered service in 2009. It has a crew of two: a pilot and a WSO (Weapons Systems Officer) in the rear seat. The EA-18G Growler is equipped with an AN/ALQ-99 Tactical Jamming System (TJS) pod, an AN/ALQ-218(V)2 radio frequency receiving system, and an AN/ALQ-227 communications countermeasures set as its electronic warfare equipment. It is powered by two General Electric F414-GE-400 turbofan engines, achieving a top speed close to Mach 1.8. Armed with this equipment, the Growler counters enemy air defense (SEAD) aircraft. VAQ-137 Rooks, based at Whippy Naval Air Station in Washington, which saw action in operations in Iraq and Syria in 2015, has also been operating Growlers since 2013.
【About the Kit】
The kit is a 1/48 scale reproduction of the US Navy's current electronic warfare aircraft, the EA-18G Growler. It is a plastic model assembly kit with a finished length of 381mm. The distinctive form is accurately modeled in an impressive size. The parts are made by Italeri, a long-established Italian manufacturer, and come with Japanese instructions produced by Platz. This kit can be tackled with confidence by Japanese modelers. Furthermore, masking stickers, which are convenient for painting the canopy frame, are included as standard equipment. The large tandem cockpit canopy makes it easy to achieve a precise paint job, which enhances the overall appearance of the finished product. The markings selected are those of VAQ-137 LUK'S, which has been operating the Growler since 2013. The kit reproduces the appearance of the aircraft with a bird design marking painted on the tail fin.
