About the actual aircraft
The EA-18G
Growler is an electronic warfare aircraft developed and operated by the US Navy as a successor to the Grumman EA-6B Prowler. It was developed based on the US Navy's fighter jet, the F/A-18F Super Hornet, and production began in 2007. It was officially put into service in 2009. It has a crew of two. The aircraft is equipped with a pilot and a WSO (Weapons Systems Officer) in the rear seat. Electronic warfare equipment includes an AN/ALQ-99 Tactical Jamming System (TJS) pod, an AN/ALQ-218(V)2 radio frequency receiving system, and an AN/ALQ-227 communications countermeasures set. It is powered by two General Electric F414-GE-400 turbofan engines, achieving a top speed close to Mach 1.8. With this equipment, the Growler counters enemy air defense (SEAD) aircraft. The US Navy's electronic warfare unit VAQ-131 Lancers, deployed at Misawa Air Base in Japan, also operates the EA-18G Growler. The tail fin features a design of a cavalryman's mask and spear.
About the Model
This model is part of the Platz/Italeri series, a collaboration between Platz and Italeri for domestic distribution. This kit is a 1/48 scale replica of the US Navy's current electronic warfare aircraft, the EA-18G Growler. It's a plastic model kit with a finished length of 38.1cm. The impressive size accurately models the aircraft's distinctive form. In addition to Italeri's signature easy-to-assemble parts configuration, a Japanese instruction manual produced by Platz is included, making it a kit that Japanese modelers can tackle with confidence. Furthermore, masking stickers are included as standard, making it convenient for painting the canopy frame. The large tandem cockpit canopy allows for easy and precise painting, enhancing the overall finish. The aircraft parts and components are efficiently designed to balance ease of assembly with realism. With the Japanese instruction manual, assembly is guaranteed. The markings selected are those of VAQ-131 Lancers, deployed at Misawa Air Base in Japan. The kit reproduces the 2022 CAG aircraft markings with full-color markings on the tail fin. The colorful illustrations make this a must-have kit for modelers.
