■Product Description
The F-14 is a carrier-based fighter aircraft developed by Grumman of the United States. Its nickname is Tomcat, meaning "male cat."
The F-14 was initially designed as a fighter aircraft solely for air-to-air combat due to the capabilities of its radar, but it had advantages such as a long range and ample payload capacity.
Due to the high attrition rate of the A-6 in the Gulf War and the cancellation of development of the A-12 Avenger II, which was being developed as a successor, and its alternative, the A-6F, the F-14 was equipped with a LANTIRN pod on the pylon at the root of its right wing to provide ground attack capabilities as a stopgap until the A-6 was retired and the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet was deployed.
This modification made it possible to use laser-guided bombs and other weapons simply by mounting the pod. This type with ground attack capabilities is sometimes called the Bombcat.
