The EA-18G is an American electronic warfare aircraft developed as a successor to the EA-6B Prowler, based on the two-seat F/A-18F Super Hornet. Its nickname is Growler.
The EA-18G is designed to perform missions such as standoff electronic jamming, escort electronic jamming, and self-defense electronic jamming, and possesses capabilities based on the EA-6B (ICAP III).
Its electronic warfare equipment includes the AN/ALQ-99 Tactical Jamming System (TJS) pod, the AN/ALQ-218(V)2 radio frequency receiving system, and the AN/ALQ-227 Communications Countermeasures Set (CCS). The fire control radar is the AN/APG-79 active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, which is the same as that of the F/A-18E/F Block 2. This aircraft omits fixed armament, and the space in the nose where the F/A-18E/F would be equipped with the M61 20mm Vulcan cannon is instead used to house electronic warfare equipment. Furthermore, due to its many shared components with the F/A-18E/F, it possesses high ground attack capabilities and self-defense capabilities against air threats.
