The HOWA 5.56 automatic rifle, manufactured by Howa Machinery, was adopted by the Japan Self-Defense Forces in 2020. Its official name is the Type 20 5.56mm Rifle. Its greatest feature is its excellent drainage and environmental resistance, designed for island defense.
The main body, which combines aluminum alloy and reinforced resin to achieve both strength and lightness, is equipped with a lightweight handguard and a stock that can be adjusted to suit the user's physique and equipment. Ambidextrous detractors are thoroughly implemented so that it can be operated from either the left or right side, and it possesses elements required of modern firearms at a high level. It is also noteworthy that it has the same or better accuracy as the Type 89 despite having a shorter barrel.
This kit was created with permission from Howa Machinery Co., Ltd., and interviews were conducted at the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Ordnance School. This 1/12 scale model of the firearm has been meticulously modeled. Furthermore, for the first time in the series, it has been produced domestically in Japan, resulting in a high level of quality.
