The Messerschmitt Bf 109 was the main fighter aircraft of the German Luftwaffe that soared through the skies of World War II. Among the many improved versions that appeared, the F-4 model demonstrated its performance in all theaters of war, from the Eastern Front in Europe to the scorching North African front. In particular, the aircraft deployed in North Africa were tropical specifications called "Trop," equipped with sand filters on the intake to prevent the engine from ingesting sand and dust during takeoff and landing, a measure taken to cope with the harsh environment.
Hans-Joachim Marseille, the legendary ace who flew this F-4 and shot down 151 aircraft in the skies of North Africa. His beloved aircraft, which earned him the nickname "Star of Africa" for his astonishing results and outstanding skill, is faithfully reproduced in this kit with four types of markings. The structure allows for the reproduction of the exposed engine on the top of the nose, and the distinctive sand filter is made into a separate part.
