■Product Description
This is a dual-purpose anti-ship/anti-aircraft gun mounted on US Navy vessels during WWII. From the middle of the war onwards, its anti-aircraft capabilities were enhanced by using VT (proximity) fused ammunition. The open-top type was mounted on the rear of aircraft carriers and destroyers, as well as on auxiliary ships and transport ships.
Contents: 8 x 5-inch 38-caliber single guns
Compatible ships: Aircraft carrier Saratoga (replaced from 5-inch 25-caliber guns during the war), Enterprise, Wasp, Essex-class, Bogue-class, Casablanca-class
Cruisers: Heavy cruiser Wichita
Destroyers: Destroyers from before the start of World War II to the early stages of the war (as aft guns. Some ships did not have them installed or had them removed later)
Others: Special service ships, etc.
