When it comes to aircraft for naval forces, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force mainly operates anti-submarine patrol aircraft and shipborne anti-submarine helicopters, and countries that possess aircraft carriers, such as the US and France, are strongly associated with operating carrier-based aircraft. However, there are many countries around the world where the navy operates land-based fighter aircraft independently as anti-ship attack aircraft. The German Navy's Marine Flieger (Naval Air Corps) operated supersonic jet fighters in a similar position to the former Imperial Japanese Navy's Type 1 Land Attack Bomber. The West German Navy valued the F-104G's stability against gusts of wind due to its high wing loading, its high speed of Mach 1.15 at sea level, and its low detection rate due to its small size, rather than the handling difficulties that had been exposed in the air force. It excelled at low-altitude, high-speed flight and was used to launch high-speed attacks at low altitudes under enemy radar coverage with anti-ship missiles, exerting influence in the Baltic Sea and North Sea, which were the front lines with the Soviet Union at the time. This kit precisely reproduces the F-104G adopted by the West German Navy, featuring newly molded chaff and flare dispensers, engine nozzles, navigation lights, and Mk.GQ7 ejection seats. Markings for aircraft belonging to the 1st Naval Air Wing (MFG1) and the 2nd Naval Air Wing (MFG2) are included.
