・Completely new mold 1/72 Hughes XF-11 prototype reconnaissance aircraft
・Precisely reproduced down to the engine and cockpit interior
・Painting mask stickers and Cartograf decals are included
・When completed, the aircraft will be approximately 276mm in length and 429mm in wingspan
The XF-11 was a prototype reconnaissance aircraft developed by Hughes Aircraft in response to the US Army Air Forces' requirement for a "high-speed, long-range photographic reconnaissance aircraft." The XF-11 was expected to be high-performance, equipped with two R-4360-31 air-cooled 28-cylinder radial engines and two 4-blade variable-pitch propellers. However, of the two prototype aircraft manufactured, the first one was totaled in an emergency landing accident on its first flight, and the pilot, Howard Hughes, was seriously injured. The second prototype, fitted with a conventional propeller, made its maiden flight in 1947 and demonstrated that while it lacked stability at low speeds, it was stable and easy to handle at high speeds. However, after evaluation tests by the Air Force, the development program was canceled due to poor handling and maintainability, as well as the projected manufacturing cost being twice that of its competitor, the XF-12.
