■Product Description
The Curtiss XP-55 was a prototype fighter aircraft developed by Curtiss for the United States Army Air Forces. In November 1939, the U.S. Army Air Corps presented manufacturers with specifications for a single-seat interceptor fighter equipped with the P&W prototype engine X-1800-A3G. In response, Curtiss proposed a canard design with a propeller at the rear of the fuselage and small wings near the nose. The first prototype made its maiden flight in July 1943, but because the planned X-1800 engine was discontinued, it was fitted with the Allison V-1710 engine, which had approximately 1,000 hp less output. Due to the lack of power from this engine, the first prototype crashed and was lost in November 1943 during a stall test. The product being released this time is a three-dimensional representation of the first prototype using newly molded canards and wingtips. The kit includes painting mask stickers, photo-etched parts, and two types of decals, and the canopy can be displayed in either the open or closed position. When completed, the model will be approximately 188mm in length and 258mm in width.
