About the actual vehicle
The Ferdinand (Elefant) was a German heavy tank destroyer from World War II that demonstrated overwhelming power with its long-barreled 71-caliber 8.8cm gun and heavy armor reaching up to 200mm. Dr. Porsche developed it for the Tiger tank, but it was rejected in a competitive prototype with Henschel. A new fixed fighting compartment was added to the chassis and a PaK43/2 71-caliber 8.8cm tank gun was mounted on it. One of its distinguishing features was the adoption of a unique drive system using an engine-generator-motor drive mechanism. Ninety units were produced between March and May 1943 using chassis prepared during the competitive prototype stage. They were immediately deployed in the Battle of Kursk against the Soviet Union in July and continued to fight valiantly until the end of the war.
About the Model
This is a 1/72 scale plastic model of the German heavy tank destroyer Ferdinand from World War II. The model features a large fixed fighting compartment at the rear of the hull and is equipped with a long 8.8cm gun barrel, with a finished length of approximately 11cm. The 8.8cm gun barrel extending from the fighting compartment has a strong presence even in 1/72 scale. The lower hull and fighting compartment accurately reproduce the unique shape. Various hatches, gun travel locks, and spare tracks are also modeled. Furthermore, the suspension also accurately represents the unique form of the Porsche type. Details such as the road wheels are also detailed, giving the vehicle a sharp look. The vehicle's body features a dark yellow base color with a distinctive camouflage pattern. The moderately applied weathering paintwork enhances its realism. The markings depict the markings of vehicle No. 322 of the 653rd Heavy Tank Destroyer Battalion at Kursk in 1943.
