■Product Description
The winged rocket-propelled ramming missile was a manned surface-to-air weapon project designed by the Imperial Japanese Navy based on the Shusui-type gunpowder rocket. In 1945, the Aviation Bureau was ordered by the Navy to develop a special local fighter aircraft as a countermeasure against air raids on the mainland. The bureau decided to develop an anti-aircraft guided missile that would be controlled by radio, and in March of the same year, they began development of the Shusui-type gunpowder rocket. The Shusui-type gunpowder rocket did not carry explosives, but used the ramming front of the fuselage to ram and destroy enemy aircraft, making it a weapon closer to an unmanned aircraft than a missile. With a cannonball-shaped fuselage and a strong and sharp design at the tip and leading edge of the main wing, the aircraft was launched from a rail-type launcher, ignited a solid-fuel rocket, climbed under radio guidance, reached an altitude of 9,000m in just under 100 seconds, and then carried out a ramming attack on an enemy aircraft. After gliding and landing, the rocket was replaced and the aircraft was intended to be reused. The Shusui-type gunpowder rocket was planned to be manufactured by Kawasaki Aircraft, but the war ended before production could begin and the plan was canceled. The kit being released this time is a three-dimensional representation of the manned version with a cockpit, as seen in the rough sketches that remain.
