■ Description
The L6/40 was a light tank operated by the Italian Army during World War II. The L refers to the Leggero class of light tanks. Between 1941 and 1944 432 tanks were produced, mainly in the deserts of North Africa and the Russian plains, and in the latter part of the war it was decided to develop L6/40 light tanks as scout tanks in the Italian peninsula and Balkans. At the request of the military who were dissatisfied with the performance of the L3 light tank, in 1939 a prototype of a 5t light tank was built, based on the third car, and a two-stroke Blade, an M6 medium tank with part of the M38 8mm artillery turret. Although the M6 medium tank was only able to meet the requirements, it was decided to develop L6/40 light tanks on the condition that an improvement was made to focus on the artillery.
