■Product Description
The AB40/41 is a wheeled armored vehicle mass-produced in Italy during World War II. The Italian Army continued to use the IZ armored vehicle, which had been standardized in 1915, even into the 1930s, but in 1938, a plan was made to develop a new wheeled armored vehicle. In 1939, a prototype called the ABM1 was completed, and after further testing and improvements, it was adopted as the AB40, with mass production starting in 1940. The AB40 had a sloped armor body designed to deflect incoming ballistics, a four-wheel drive independent suspension, and a four-wheel steering chassis, which allowed it to perform well on rough terrain. The embedded spare tires in the center of the left and right sides of the vehicle prevented the center of the vehicle from touching the ground on uneven terrain. Early production vehicles were equipped only with two Breda M38 8mm machine guns in the turret, but from 1941 onwards, production switched to a type that featured a Breda M35 65-caliber 20mm autocannon in a turret shared with the L6/40 light tank. In 1942, it was given the alternative designation AB41, and this became the main production model. The AB40/41 was deployed to cavalry units, motorized infantry units, armored division reconnaissance units, and military police units, and was used on all fronts throughout World War II.
