The Iowa-class battleships were the last class of battleships built by the United States and the last battleships of any nation to be retired. The Iowa was the lead ship of the Iowa-class battleships and the fourth ship to bear this name, named after the state of Iowa. Commissioned in 1943 and serving in World War II, the ship was repeatedly put into reserve and returned to active service. In the 1980s, it underwent a major modernization refit, including the installation of missiles and close-in weapon systems (CIWS), updated electronics, and the addition of a flight deck at the stern. Decommissioned in 2006, the Iowa is now open to the public as a museum. The kit consists of an injection-molded plastic body, with the "Standard Edition" including decals, and the "Deluxe Edition" including photo-etched parts, metal gun barrels, wooden deck sheets, and deck mask stickers in addition to the contents of the "Standard Edition". This is a wonderful kit that reproduces the 1944 Iowa as a waterline model with delicate detail.
