■Product Description
The USS Oakland was commissioned in 1943 as the fifth ship of the Atlanta-class light cruisers. In 1943, she supported Operation Galvanic, and in 1944, she provided cover for the Battle of Kwajalein, participated in the Battle of the Philippine Sea in June, and the Battle of Leyte Gulf in October. After the war, she participated in Operation Magic Carpet, was decommissioned in March 1959, and scrapped in December. Oakland's mast and nameplate were donated to the ship that named her Oakland. Oakland received nine battle stars for her service in World War II.
The kit consists of an injection-molded plastic body, with the "Standard Edition" including decals, and the "Deluxe Edition" including photo-etched parts, metal gun barrels, deck mask stickers, etc. in addition to the contents of the "Standard Edition". This is a wonderful kit that reproduces the Oakland in 1945 as a waterline model with delicate detail.
