Equipped with three 45-caliber 40.6cm triple gun turrets, it was capable of sailing at a speed of 27 knots, comparable to the Yamato-class battleships of the same generation. Completed in March 1942, it participated in the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands in October of the same year, the Third Battle of the Solomon Islands in mid-November, and although it was damaged by bombing in the Battle of the Philippine Sea in June 1944, it participated in the Battle of Leyte Gulf from October onwards, the Battle of Iwo Jima in February 1945, and the Battle of Okinawa from March onwards. The South Dakota was awarded 13 battle stars for these achievements. The kit includes an injection-molded plastic body, decals and photo-etched parts in the \"Standard Edition\" (this product), and detail-up parts in the \"Deluxe Edition\" and \"Platinum Edition\" (the \"Deluxe Edition\" and \"Platinum Edition\" differ in the number of photo-etched parts, metal parts, and whether or not masking is included).
