■Product Description
The Centurion Mk.5 AVRE is a combat engineer vehicle (AVRE) operated by the Royal Corps of Engineers of the British Army.
It is equipped with a hydraulic dozer blade on the front of the Centurion Mk.5 hull, and is also fitted with an L9A1 165mm crushing gun for destroying obstacles, and the turret basket has also been enlarged.
Deployment began in 1963 and it gradually replaced the Churchill AVRE, but because the development of its successor, the Chieftain AVRE, stalled, it remained in service for a long time and was deployed in the 1991 Gulf War with additional armor.
The distinctive short-barreled main gun it is equipped with is the Royal Ordnance L9, which was developed by the Royal Ordnance after World War II.
This gun is a crushing gun developed to destroy defensive positions and is used to destroy walls, bunkers, and other obstacles in operations.
It can fire high-explosive sticky shells (HESH), of which 18 kg are high-explosives out of a total shell weight of 29 kg, up to 2,400 m.
The L9A1 mounted on this Centurion Mk.5 AVRE is an improved version of the L9, with a fume extractor (evacuator) attached to the barrel.
