■Product Description
Akashi was a ship that the Imperial Japanese Navy had long desired, and it was the only one newly built as a repair ship, completed in 1939. Because it had various factories on board, it adopted a horizontal deck type hull. The forward funnel was dedicated to the onboard factories and was equipped with five large derrick cranes for damaged parts, repair and replacement parts, and supplies. Onboard, as a repair ship, it had numerous specialized factories and tool rooms such as a machine shop, casting, welding, and electrical, and it had world-class repair capabilities as a mobile factory at sea.
