After the war, it was salvaged in 1954 (Showa 29) and restoration work was completed in May 1956 (Showa 31). It was recommissioned as a patrol ship for the newly established Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. \u003cbr\u003eInitially, it was operated as an unarmed training ship, but later modifications equipped it with 76mm twin guns and Hedgehog anti-submarine projectile launchers.
