The Kagero-class destroyers were the largest destroyers at the time, built without the constraints of disarmament conditions.
The 8th ship, Yukikaze, entered service in January 1940. It survived many naval battles, including the Battle of the Marianas and the Battle of Leyte Gulf, and was called a lucky ship.
