■Product Description
Nine "Hateruma" class patrol vessels were built as enhanced base-function patrol vessels with the capability to serve as mother ships for helicopters and patrol boats.
As they needed to have both mother ship capabilities and high speeds of over 30 knots, waterjet propulsion was adopted, and a bulwark was installed at the bow to achieve excellent seaworthiness.
In addition, to reduce weight, the smokestack was eliminated and exhaust was made to the sides of the hull.
The armament consists of remotely operated machine guns linked to an optical fire control system and large water cannons.
PL-61 "Hateruma" was completed in March 2008 and is currently still assigned to the Ishigaki Headquarters of the 11th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters.
