■Product Description
Construction of the Hyuga-class destroyer began in fiscal year 2004 to replace the aging Haruna-class destroyers.
It was required to develop various capabilities beyond the Haruna-class, and the standard displacement is 13,950 tons, the largest of any Self-Defense Force vessel to date.
The ship's design is that of an aircraft carrier, with a full-length flight deck that also serves as a flight deck and an island-type bridge to improve the operational efficiency of helicopters, enabling the simultaneous takeoff and landing of three helicopters.
It can carry 11 helicopters in total, including those on the deck and in the hangar, and the maintenance space behind the aft elevator allows for aircraft maintenance with the rotors extended, regardless of the weather.
The hull and superstructure are sloped on the sides and have a smooth surface to enhance stealth, and it incorporates numerous new features, such as the domestically produced "FCS-3 Kai" new multi-function radar and the OQQ-21 integrated sonar system.
The ship is equipped with a commander's office, staff offices, and living quarters for headquarters personnel in preparation for its operation as the flagship of the destroyer fleet. Furthermore, for the first time in a destroyer, living quarters for female Self-Defense Force personnel were secured from the design stage.
In addition to being a new generation helicopter-carrying destroyer, it is also expected to play an active role as an offshore rescue base in the event of a large-scale disaster, utilizing its high command and helicopter operation capabilities.
The J37 "1/700 JMSDF Destroyer Hyuga," which had been out of production for a long time, will be newly released as a convertible kit that also allows for the construction of its sister ship, Ise.
