■Product Description
The Sikorsky HSS-2B Sea King is an anti-submarine helicopter of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force initially used the HSS-2 and -2A, but from the 1977 procurement onwards, it was changed to the HSS-2B model.
The HSS-2B is an aircraft that is almost identical to the SH-3H used by the US Navy, but with enhanced anti-submarine detection equipment.
The anti-submarine detection equipment installed includes the HQS102 dipping sonar, HPS-102 search radar, ASQ-81B(V)-2 magnetic anomaly detector (MAD), AN/ALR-66 ESM counter-detection device, and 12 sonobuoy chutes. However, regarding the operation of sonobuoys, since the aircraft does not have an analysis device, when sonobuoy radio waves are received, they are relayed to the mother ship via a data link device.
The HSS-2B is equipped with a Tactical Data Processing System (TDDS) that comprehensively processes data from its onboard detection devices, allowing necessary data to be displayed on the scope instantly. This reduces the crew's workload and significantly improves the accuracy of operational flights.
The HSS-2B comes in land-based and ship-based versions. The ship-based version is equipped with a hydraulic winch for deploying and winding hold-down cables as a shipboard restraint system.
